Highland Creek is located in the easterly end of what was the City of Scarborough.  With their own Mayor and Aldermen/Councilors amalgamated into a large Municipal Corporation called The Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto. Effective January 1st of 1998, the Provincial Government of Ontario decided to cause Metro, as it was known, to cease to exist and to create in its stead, the "New" City of Toronto. Although now the City of Toronto, (fifth largest in North America) many community sub-names have remained...thus it is with Highland Creek - one of the oldest communities within the new Toronto.

In the early 70’s, as new housing developments sprang up,  two ratepayers
groups were formed  in the Highland Creek community area (The East Highland Creek Community Association and the West Highland Creek Community Association,  both  being non-incorporated entities, representing the eastern and western halves of the community, Morrish Road being the dividing line).

In June 1976, the first issue of The Villager, a community newsletter, was born
under the auspices of the East Highland Creek Community Association and   soon thereafter  the West Highland Creek Community Association  joined in as
co-publisher. The  Villager has continued uninterrupted since that date serving as
a medium for listing community events, and activities, providing information to and
from residents of Highland Creek and any other matters affecting the well being of
the area.   In 1980, the East Highland Creek and West Highland Creek groups, recognizing
that they had common goals and faced common challenges, merged to form the
Highland Creek Community Association.
The HCCA was incorporated in 1984 as a non-profit, non-shareholding Ontario corporation.

My experience living in Highland Creak has been great.  Where else in Toronto can you spot deer’s, beavers, a vast variety of birds, and other wildlife, while walking to the local shopping village.  Highland Creak is the best kept secret of Toronto.  It has the history and charm of a small town with the convenience or the big city of Toronto.  Don’t be alarmed when people say a friendly Hello because that is just the friendly culture and nature of the People of Highland Creek.

Located on Old Kingston rd is the famous Highland Creek Village.  Highland Creek is proud to have one of the only recognized Villages in Toronto, and If you look closely you will still see the charm of a pioneer lifestyle.

The village has one of the best Family run Italian Restaurants in the city called Fratelli's.  While in Highland Creak you can also visit Teds Famous Diner or enjoy a freshly roasted coffee at the Village Roasters.

Highland Creak is very convenient with express TTC routes and only a 20min drive to Downtown Toronto.  Highland Creek is also home to The University of Toronto.
